Artist Statement
I work with themes and subjects that are familiar to me from throughout my lifetime. Because my works are derived from my life and travels, captured in photos, sketches and memories, my subject matter is very internal and familiar, making me, in essence, the raw material from which everything springs.
Narrative ideas generate both the direct and then my abstract expressions, and I have several lines of visual investigation that are at once part of a huge series, yet each piece also stands alone. This broad input includes a variety of cultural resources and heritages, a collective human consciousness (that is, really, something we share mostly unconsciously), and I believe these experiences can be shared both verbally and visually. I’m emotionally expressing and communicating concepts that are not only personal, but also offer insights into humanity.
My variety of working materials and methods within various subjects allow me to create, combine, recombine, explore, and continue to express and expand upon my private worlds of thought.
